Job Overview

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not involve direct supervision or management of a team.

Position Summary

The ideal Switcher Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers across the facility, ensuring timely operations in a dynamic environment. This position also involves providing assistance to dock teams and other labor groups as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport 18-wheelers between docks within the facility
  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Coordinate with dock personnel, drivers, and fellow switchers
  • Perform yard inspections
  • Operate the fuel truck as necessary
  • Complete assigned dock tasks
  • Fulfill additional duties as directed by management

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience operating a switcher or OTR trailer
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, capable of multitasking, and a collaborative team member

Physical Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license permitting operation in the respective state

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position primarily takes place outdoors, but may require work in various locations and within an office setting for administrative tasks, necessitating the use of computers and standard office equipment. Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English is essential. The role requires adaptability to outdoor conditions, including exposure to dust and allergens. There may be occasional tasks involving scaffolding. The position necessitates the ability to stand, sit, squat, bend, reach, and twist regularly to perform essential functions. Candidates must be capable of operating all necessary machinery within the department and across the facility, including driving the appropriate switcher trucks. Additionally, the ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted is required.
