Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the lead attorney, the Attorney will engage in legal research, including the examination of precedents in relevant cases. The role involves preparing and distributing complex legal documents, compiling subpoenas, pleadings, and other necessary paperwork. The Attorney will also develop and refine forms and procedures, deliver legal pleadings, and provide analysis and recommendations on legal matters within the agency's jurisdiction. Additionally, the Attorney may serve as a liaison between the agency and the Department of Law and may supervise support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

· Assist the supervising attorney with various legal issues

· Address inquiries for information, providing opinions and recommendations on legal matters

· Conduct research on all matters influenced by applicable laws and regulations

· Respond to legal inquiries and prepare written responses or reports for interested parties

· Review legal documents such as subpoenas, court orders, and affidavits to support staff and the supervising attorney

· Aid in the preparation and coordination of cases for administrative proceedings, trials, and appeals

· Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, case law, and other pertinent information to develop case strategies

· Collaborate with the supervising attorney to draft petitions, briefs, motions, and other legal documents

· Participate in the organization of cases for administrative proceedings and trials

· Collect information, identify facts, and review issues in preparation for administrative proceedings and trials

· Gather necessary documents and prepare exhibits for administrative proceedings and court

· Draft legal documents, reports, and statements as required for administrative proceedings and trials

· Stay updated on current trends and developments in the legal field through reading and attending relevant seminars and conferences

· Foster respectful interactions with all levels of state government to promote cooperation and enhance performance

Required Skills and Qualifications:

· Comprehensive knowledge of statutes, court rulings, state and federal laws, and departmental policies

· Proficient in legal research and analysis

· Capable of drafting legal documents, contracts, proposed legislation, and legal opinions

· Strong ability to analyze and organize facts and present them clearly in both oral and written formats

· Skilled in determining compliance with regulations

Minimum Requirements:

This position will be filled at a level commensurate with the selectee's education and experience at one of the following levels:

Attorney 1 – LEP020

Pay Grade: K

Salary range: $43,000 – $56,000

Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by successful passage and licensure within one year of hiring, or reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause.

Attorney 2 – LEP021

Pay Grade: L

Salary range: $47,000 – $63,000

Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by successful passage and licensure within one year of hiring, or reciprocity, along with one year of relevant legal experience or one year of experience at the lower-level Attorney 1 (LEP020).

Attorney 3 – LEP022

Pay Grade: M

Salary range: $53,000 – $70,000

Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by successful passage and licensure within one year of hiring, or reciprocity, along with two years of relevant legal experience or two years of experience at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).

Attorney 4 – LEP030

Pay Grade: N

Salary range: $59,000 – $78,000

Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by successful passage and licensure within one year of hiring, or reciprocity, along with three years of relevant legal experience or three years of experience at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022).
