Job Summary
The Director of Counseling Services plays a key leadership role in strengthening connections between the Counseling Center and other departments across the University through the coordination of services and activities that support the wellness and well-being of SXU students.

This position is responsible for providing direct clinical service, supervising a diverse team of mental health professionals, and coordinating services and activities that promote student health and wellness.

The Director reports to the Dean of Students and serves as a member of the Student Life Leadership Team and the University's Care Team, among other integral groups that require a mental-health educational perspective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead evidence-based individual and group interventions through diagnostic evaluation, clinical observation, and psychometric instruments.
  • Provide direct clinical service through client-centered treatment plans designed to assist a diverse college-student population with a wide range of presenting concerns.
  • Assess risk and provide appropriate and timely crisis intervention, coordinating higher levels of care when necessary.
  • Manage caseloads for students with behavioral, family, financial, academic, or other personal concerns, often in conjunction with the Dean of Students, Health Center, Residence Life, Campus Ministry, Accessibility Resources, and other units as needed.
  • Respond to crisis situations, coordinate emergency and crisis-response procedures, participate in threat assessment activities, and coordinate the Counselor On-Call schedule.
  • Provide clinical supervision to counseling staff and interns, ensuring adherence to professional and ethical standards.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in clinical counseling or social work from an accredited program.
  • Independent licensure as a Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois.
  • 2-3 years of administrative and clinical supervision experience, preferably in a college or university counseling center environment.
  • Strong generalist therapy skills, with ability to evaluate and diagnose clients.
  • Familiarity with best practices for college or university counseling centers, with an understanding of administrative and legal complexities.
  • Experience in crisis management, suicide prevention, and substance abuse preferred.
  • Able to communicate with diverse populations, students, departments, and constituents.
  • Able to manage clinical practitioners and collaborate with clinical partners.
  • Experience with electronic health records (Microsoft Office and MedicatOne) preferred.
  • Confidentiality and adherence to ethical practices.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) encouraged to apply.
