The Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing the current commercial and small business loan portfolio. Key duties include evaluating new loan applications, managing renewals, conducting annual assessments, and ensuring compliance with covenants.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional in commercial lending, demonstrating self-motivation and the ability to manage responsibilities effectively to meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate new loan applications, renewals, annual assessments, and modifications for C & I, Construction & Development, Vehicle, and Equipment loans on Conventional and SBA 504 / 7a loan products for corporate clients.
- Manage loan requests ranging from $5M to $25M.
- Conduct detailed financial statement analyses involving complex interrelations.
- Assess the quality of collateral and loan-to-value ratios.
- Coordinate all activities necessary to finalize a credit package with assigned Commercial Loan Officers.
- Engage with Loan Officers, Members, or CPAs to gather essential financial information and complete the credit package.
- Prepare comprehensive packages for credit approval circulation and present them to the appropriate credit authority.
- Monitor various loan portfolio reports such as Maturing Loans, Past-Due Loans, and Annual Reviews.
- Assist lenders with necessary action plans proactively.
- Ensure the credit union maintains current financial information that is accurately analyzed and filed.
- Guarantee that credit files are complete and accurate.
- Ensure that credits are appropriately risk-rated and monitored.
- Adhere to all requirements of Regulation B Adverse Action Procedures.
- Manage and track covenants, borrowing bases, A-R Aging, etc., for accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly, or quarterly reports.
- Advise lenders on matters related to credit policy, procedures, or forms.
- Conduct annual site visits, attend loan closings, and perform other tasks to support assigned lenders.
- Evaluate and review existing relationships and new credit requests to provide recommendations to the Credit Team.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise.
- Participate in educational events to enhance professional knowledge.
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related field preferred (a comparable combination of work experience and training may substitute for educational requirements).
- 4+ years of experience in a credit-oriented and underwriting role within a commercial lending environment.
- Strong knowledge of credit underwriting, accounting, and loan documentation.
- Advanced interpersonal and social skills for effective interaction with loan officers, administrative staff, and clients.
- Proficient mathematical, credit, and administrative skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to compose reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines.
- Detail-oriented and organized with effective task management.
- Ability to resolve complex problems.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with members, staff, vendors, and regulators.
- Ability to influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance necessary for successful job performance.
