Job Title: IT - Applications Development - Senior Hadoop Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Overview:
  • A Hadoop Engineer is tasked with the architecture, development, and management of systems that handle extensive data storage and processing.
  • Most Hadoop Engineers possess a background in software development and hold degrees in fields such as information systems, software engineering, computer science, or mathematics.
  • IT Engineers are responsible for the creation, programming, and coding of IT solutions.
  • IT Engineers must document comprehensive system specifications, engage in unit testing, and maintain both planned and unplanned internally developed applications, as well as evaluate and test the performance of purchased products.
  • IT Engineers are responsible for implementing IT Controls to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data processed or generated by the applications. They are assigned to moderately complex development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop code for moderately complex system designs
    • Create programs that operate across multiple platforms
  • Code and/or design Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
  • Enhance existing programs or develop new applications through coding
  • Review code produced by fellow IT Engineers
  • Contribute to and promote programming standards
  • Draft detailed technical specifications for subsystems
    • Identify integration points
  • Report any missing elements found in system and functional requirements and explain impacts on subsystems to team members
  • Collaborate with other IT Engineers, Business Analysts, Systems Analysts, Project Managers, and vendors
  • Estimate time, resources, etc., needed to complete programming projects
    • Seek feedback from other IT Engineers, Business Analysts, Systems Analysts, or Project Managers on estimates
  • Conduct unit testing and debugging
    • Establish test conditions based on code specifications
    • May require assistance from other IT Engineers and team members to resolve more complex errors.
  • Support the transition of applications throughout the Product Development life cycle
    • Document migration requirements
    • May necessitate additional coordination points for subsystems
  • Research vendor products and alternatives
    • Perform vendor product gap analysis and comparisons
  • Ensure the inclusion of IT Controls and adherence to standard corporate practices to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data processed or generated by the applications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Requirements:
  • Experience and understanding of unit testing, release procedures, coding design, documentation protocols, and change management processes
  • Proficiency with version control tools
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Information Technology fields and computer systems
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptable team player
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Capacity to learn from mistakes and apply constructive feedback to enhance performance
  • Must demonstrate initiative and effective independent decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving environment
  • In-depth understanding of the systems development life cycle
  • Proficiency in multiple object-oriented programming languages
  • Proficiency in standard desktop applications such as MS Suite and flowcharting tools like Visio
  • Proficiency in debugging tools
  • High critical thinking skills to evaluate alternatives and present solutions that align with business objectives and strategy
Specific Tools/Languages Required:
  • HADOOP
  • Spark
  • Scala/Java
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Related Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience, with professional experience in technical design and coding within the IT industry
  • Strong Spark/Scala development experience required
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Exposure to AI technologies is highly preferred
