POSITION SUMMARY

We are in search of a Principal Structural Engineer who will take charge of offering leadership, technical direction, performance evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of the structural engineering department. The ideal candidate will be tasked with designing and assessing a range of structural projects from initial concept through to construction completion. Responsibilities may also encompass proposal development, inspections, technical and financial assessments, report generation, and other designated tasks. The Principal Structural Engineer will manage a team of technical professionals to ensure the successful execution of assigned projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Oversee and mentor engineering teams and design groups while collaborating with various sub-consultants.


• Set and evaluate key performance metrics, making management decisions as needed to ensure the team meets or surpasses client expectations, contractual performance standards, and financial targets.


• Formulate and execute strategic objectives that align with the organization’s overarching goals.


• Ensure effective management of technical specifications and guarantee their implementation across the structural division.


• Maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders, including clients, subconsultants, and engineering and construction personnel.


• Accountable for establishing project, departmental, and/or divisional timelines and budgets.


• Review intricate financial/business analyses and reports prepared by team members. Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures. Supervise the structural division's budget.


• Create annual plans, set individual performance goals, and drive performance enhancements within the Structural Engineering Division.


• Collaborate with internal team members to ensure project completion within established timelines and quality standards.


• Address complex challenges and navigate a variety of options in intricate situations.


• Develop and refine design contract documents, including construction plans and design calculations.


• Generate design and inspection reports, contract documents, specifications, plans, estimates, etc.


• Monitor project schedules, design processes, and permitting by tracking project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving issues.


• Engage in marketing and business development activities, including proposal preparation, participation in interviews and presentations, and direct engagement with current and prospective clients.


• Provide mentorship to project engineers and engineers in training.


• Leverage existing professional relationships, networking opportunities, and industry expertise to enhance our client service offerings and attract new clients/accounts.


• Review design and inspection reports, contract documents, specifications, plans, estimates, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, such as structural engineering, along with relevant industry experience.


• Professional Engineer (PE) License.


• A minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to fulfill the essential duties of the role.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.


• Knowledge of CAD software is essential.


• Familiarity with REVIT is preferred.


• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships, with a strong desire to advance in their career.


• High level of self-management, commitment, and alignment with company values, fostering effective communication and collaboration with leadership.


• Active involvement in local professional associations, recognized as an industry leader within the community, with a robust network of industry contacts to support ongoing and future success.


• Capability to respond effectively to a variety of client, project, and personnel issues.


• Proficient in delivering compelling presentations on complex subjects to employees, clients, senior management, and public groups.


• Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key personnel, senior management, and client groups to achieve desired outcomes.


• Strong understanding of Project Management and Project Controls best practices.


• Proven ability to lead multifaceted projects in a senior capacity while earning client respect in a billable role.


• Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills with a track record of developing strategic solutions in a complex, multi-industry sales environment.

Most responsibilities will be carried out at the main office. Occasional site visits or offsite meetings may be necessary.
