Job Title: Custodian

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at West Ada School District. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sweep and mop floors, including restrooms, classrooms, and hallways
  • Vacuum carpeted floors and strip and wax floors on a regular maintenance schedule
  • Dust and wipe off surfaces, including chalkboards and whiteboards
  • Clean and sanitize restroom areas, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors
  • Maintain supply levels in restrooms, including toilet paper, paper towels, and soap
  • Wash walls, windows, and surface areas
  • Empties and cleans trash containers, including transporting bagged waste to outside trash receptacles
  • Clean light fixtures and replace bulbs
  • Dust and clean air vents and change air filters
  • Clean and polish mirrors, wood, and other special reflective and decorative surfaces
  • Clean spills, spot clean carpets, and remove graffiti as needed
  • Clean and maintain custodial equipment
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies
  • Assist in moving and setting up furniture and equipment
  • Unload supplies, paper stocks, books, and inventory items
  • Maintain and regulate HVAC systems to provide building temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity
  • Maintain grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, and planting areas, by picking up litter and trash, mowing grass, weeding planting areas, and irrigating
  • Perform snow removal duties, including sanding and salting walkways
  • Locks and unlocks buildings and checks panic bolts to maintain security and prevent vandalism
  • Perform minor maintenance, including changing light bulbs, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and classroom repairs
  • Sets up for and breaks down after special events
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • One (1) year custodial experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English at the 6th grade level
  • Ability to complete basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at the 6th grade level
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The Custodian will be required to lift objects up to 70 pounds, maneuver power cleaning equipment, and stand for periods up to four hours. The Custodian will also be required to work in areas with only artificial light, work within a tightly enclosed area, and work while exposed to unpleasant odors and with allergenic substances.
