Job Summary:

Alltex Staffing & Personnel is seeking a skilled Ship Crane Operations Specialist to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating ship cranes, loading and unloading cargo, and containers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crane Operation: Operate ship's crane in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring the smooth handling of cargo and containers without damage or harm to the crane, equipment, cargo, vessel, or dock.
  • Safety and Inspection: Perform all functions in accordance with operation and safety protocols, inspecting equipment before use to ensure it is safe to operate, and reporting any gear found to be unsafe to the Vessel Superintendent or Walking and/or Gang foreman.
  • Loading and Discharge: Conduct and follow crane hand signals with flagman when performing the loading and discharge of cargo and containers, maintaining effective communication with personnel throughout the operation.
  • Maintenance and Reporting: Inform supervisor immediately if any damages or spoiled cargo are detected before loading, and perform other assigned duties as required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to physical and/or DOT screening, along with other tests as applicable.
  • Employee must be able to work in high elements.
  • Employee is continuously required to sit (while driving), grasp, and exercise eye-hand coordination and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Employee is frequently required to reach forward, exercise repetitive foot and wrist motion.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, bend-forward, squat, twist, and reach-overhead.
  • Employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 55 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years of industry-related experience operating the ship's crane is required.
  • One year of experience operating heavy equipment such as the 9K, 30K, or 52K forklift is necessary.
  • Advanced knowledge of flagging signals used in cargo handling is essential.
  • A TWIC card or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • A valid Driver's License is mandatory.
  • The ability to read, write, and speak basic English is crucial.
  • The ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment is necessary.
  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative is essential.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 per year
