About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at PsiQuantum, a leading innovator in quantum computing. As a key member of our Mechanical Engineering team, you will play a critical role in the design and specification of components and assemblies for our advanced electronic and optical modules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Generate CAD models and specification drawings for custom mechanical components, including stamped and formed sheet metal, and develop specifications to capture design intent, including GD&T.
  • Component Selection: Select appropriate off-the-shelf components for use in assemblies.
  • Thermal Performance Analysis: Perform analysis of thermal performance in packaging designs that may include heatsinks, fans, thermoelectric coolers, heat pipes, liquid cooling, or other devices.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers on adjacent teams on system and component design.
  • Layout Planning: Plan and document layouts for multiple enclosures across multiple equipment racks, including cable management and routing and power distribution.
  • Manufacturing Process Development: Develop and document pilot manufacturing process instructions and quality inspection criteria.
  • Inventory Management: Manage item and BOM data in Arena PLM system and initiate or resolve change orders as appropriate.
  • Communication: Communicate ideas and concepts to internal and external teams by means of drawings, presentations, and/or emails.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of industry engineering design experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or above in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Software Skills: Experienced user of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Design Standards: Familiarity with EIA-310 rack-mounted equipment and related design standards, and modern best practices for datacenter IT equipment.
  • Thermal Management: Experience with complex thermal management design challenges preferred.
  • Cable Harness Design: Experience with cable harness design & specification preferred.
  • Optical Fiber Management: Experience with optical fiber management preferred.
  • Design Guidelines: Willingness to follow and help develop internal design guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail.
