Patient Access Representative/Communications Specialist

Prairie Ridge Health is seeking a skilled Patient Access Representative/Communications Specialist to join our Registration/Communications Department. This 0.65 FTE (26 hours per week) role will work various night, pm and weekend shifts, providing exceptional customer service and serving as the initial hospital contact for telephone, two-way radio calls, and registering/access to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Route telephone calls and facilitate communication with staff and the general public in emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Obtain and record accurate and complete demographics and payer information upon patient registration or admission to the facility.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, collection deposit requirements, and perform other clerical duties.
  • Communicate with the public regularly to provide information and directions upon request.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Basic word processing proficiency required, including the ability to generate basic memos, utilize form letters, and generate professional-appearing notices and e-mails.
  • Six months hospital experience in the areas of registration and/or patient accounts or experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of health insurance products and benefits preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
  • Typing speed of 45 words per minute and above average mouse navigation skills required.
  • Basic level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel (or other spreadsheet software) preferred.
  • Must be flexible in work hours.
  • Previous customer service experience required.

Shift: AM/PM's, holiday and weekend shifts
