About the Role

Environmental Consultants (ECI) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Distribution Utility Work Planner/Consulting Utility Forester to join our team. As a key member of our vegetation management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of our services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and assess customer properties for trimming or removal of trees, ensuring compliance with utility specifications.
  • Secure clear rights-of-way for new electric line and pole construction, minimizing disruptions to customers.
  • Handle customer complaints related to scheduled trimming/removals and/or completed trimming/removals, providing excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly.
  • Record, organize, and document associated vegetation work for later trimming and removal by a tree crew, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide identified access routes onto and in ROW, facilitating efficient and safe work operations.
  • Plan herbicide work for specialty and herbicide tree vendors, ensuring effective and environmentally responsible vegetation management.
  • Plan aerial saw work, coordinating with contractors and clients to ensure seamless execution.
  • May be asked to provide high-level cost and time estimates based on planned work, supporting business development and client relationships.
  • Audit tree contractor's work for compliance with utility's specifications, ensuring high-quality services.
  • Operate system forestry computer programs and record systems, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the general public, providing excellent customer service and promoting positive relationships.
  • Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations, upholding ECI's reputation and values.
Requirements
  • Must be able to read maps and identify tree species and growth rates, demonstrating a strong understanding of forestry principles.
  • Must be able to identify required removal and trimming work based on utility specifications, ensuring accurate and efficient work operations.
  • Must be able to work alone, and outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities, and show attention to detail, ensuring excellent customer service and work quality.
  • Must be able to adapt to change, prioritizing flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Must have basic computer skills, with proficiency in system forestry computer programs and record systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in forestry principles and practices.
  • Prior experience in Utility Vegetation Management or Forestry, with a proven track record of success in vegetation management and customer service.
  • Prior experience in Herbicide and Aerial Saw planning, with a strong understanding of vegetation management principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping programs, with proficiency in data analysis and mapping.
  • Familiarity with vegetation removal, utility line clearance, and utility vegetation methods and equipment, with a strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices.
  • Certified ISA Arborist, with a strong commitment to professional development and continuing education.
  • Being Bi-Lingual (Spanish), with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders and clients.
