Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Parking Enforcement Officer. As a key member of our Campus Services department, you will be responsible for enforcing parking permit requirements and motor vehicle laws and regulations on the College of Charleston campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol all College of Charleston parking lots to enforce permit requirements and motor vehicle laws and regulations.
  • Use handheld ticket writer functions to issue citations and download data at the conclusion of each shift.
  • Place vehicle immobilizers on vehicles and tow vehicles as required by policy, communicating with Campus Services HQ prior to immobilizing and/or towing vehicles.
  • Provide students, employees, and visitors with campus information, directions, and assistance.
  • Train new temporary parking enforcement officers in the field, demonstrating various tasks, equipment use, and teaching regulations.
  • Monitor and provide follow-up guidance for staff to reinforce training.
Requirements
  • High school graduate and one year security or other related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous but firm manner with the general public.
  • Capable of acting quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and explain the parking rules and regulations.
Working Conditions

The person filling this position must be able to lift up to thirty pounds and be physically able to place and remove vehicle immobilizing devices. Requires working knowledge of campus and ability to walk campus. Must be able to maintain an even temperament while working in a stressful environment.
