Quality Engineer

Overview

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the designated products comply with all customer purchase orders, specifications, and manufacturing standards.

This role involves developing inspection criteria, guiding inspection teams, and collaborating with manufacturing and engineering personnel. The Quality Engineer will conduct quality audits, oversee processes, and ensure that root cause analysis and effective corrective actions are executed.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision:
  • Review purchase orders, customer specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineers to create quality plans within manufacturing instructions and approve tool gage concepts and First Article Inspection plans.
  • Work closely with shop and engineering teams on non-conforming materials, Source Inspection, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) analysis as necessary.
  • Communicate requirements effectively to suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance to shop personnel as needed.
  • Establish and implement inspection standards and methodologies.
  • Guide inspection teams and operators to ensure adherence to specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering to ensure the flow down of critical characteristics and develop robust quality control plans.
  • Review documentation for material, special processing needs, and manufacturability.
  • Lead improvement initiatives.
  • Disseminate customer requirements to the purchasing department.
  • Conduct internal audits.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action training.
  • Design and create inspection tools and fixtures.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and suppliers regarding quality concerns.
  • Assist in the evaluation and approval of work instructions.
  • Support Quality Assurance activities related to Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Initiate and approve Quality Plans.
  • Provide training and mentorship.
  • Support investigations into supplier nonconformance.
  • Offer recommendations for process improvements.
  • Provide Quality Clinic support.
  • Establish sampling plans and inspection requirements to meet Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Develop quality acceptance plans for components.
  • Contribute to Value Stream Mapping processes.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by regulatory standards.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Mentor junior staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or in a higher role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Familiarity with drawing interpretation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of various machining processes, Quality Assurance systems, calibration, and gauging.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of AS9100 Quality Systems requirements.
  • Experience in problem-solving to enhance business operations.
  • Aptitude for defining problems, gathering data, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse group of engineering and technical personnel.
  • Solid understanding of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 years of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or in a higher role.
  • 3 years of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or in a higher role.
  • AS13001 certification.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques.
  • Solid knowledge of AS9102/eCAV, CID, SPS & Fix Process.
