About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Prototyping Lab Specialist to join our team at the University of California, Irvine. As a key member of our Beall Applied Innovation team, you will be responsible for the design, construction, and implementation of our prototyping lab space.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development and layout of the facility, including comprehensive long-range strategic planning and budget development.
  • Manage the daily operations of the laboratory facility, providing technical support and advice to users.
  • Lead troubleshooting of instruments, solving design issues, and developing detailed laboratory processes.
  • Represent Beall Applied Innovation at informational sessions, campus-wide committees, and other higher education institutions.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility maintenance.
  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a stressful environment.
  • Active listening, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve questions, concerns, issues, or problems.
  • Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of practices and procedures of safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Knowledge and experience with hydraulic, high-pressure gas, mechanical, and electrical laboratory equipment systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC systems, building, and split systems.
  • Experience designing and building highly technical laboratory space.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ability to translate technical needs into practical instrumentation with appropriate documentation.
