Job Summary

This role supports the Environmental Affairs Department in managing risks of workplace injury and illness, and maintaining compliance with EH&S codes, standards, and guidelines. The position plans, coordinates, and performs general safety functions, including conducting safety surveys, investigating incidents, and managing hazardous materials.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Environmental Health and Safety, with 3-5 years of experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The position will cover assignments at all BWH locations, and the day-to-day duties will be coordinated and supervised by the EH&S department's EH&S Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the duties of 1-2 Environmental Health and Safety Specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety surveys and investigations
  • Manage hazardous materials
  • Develop and implement effective hazard controls and solutions
  • Assure continued effectiveness through safety systems development and continual process oversight and improvement
  • Supervise the duties of 1-2 Environmental Health and Safety Specialists

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Environmental Health and Safety
  • 3-5 years of experience in EH&S
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in general office software and apps

Working Conditions:

  • Work under the supervision of the Safety and Environmental Affairs Manager and Department Director
  • Handle hazardous chemical materials, including spills
  • Occasional work in environments with biological, chemical, or physical hazards
  • Periodically required to work off-hours; occasionally required to respond to urgent matters with short notice on regular and off-hours
