Overview

This position operates at a full performance level and requires flexibility to work overtime as necessary, particularly during adverse weather conditions and emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of this role are core responsibilities that apply across the classification series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all tasks. Implements conservation and preservation strategies to support the management of natural resources, including activities such as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, and maintaining trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, and crops, alongside turf management, pest control, herbicide and fertilizer application, soil assessment, and environmental condition evaluation.
Conducts maintenance and repairs across various labor and trade fields, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, construction, and grounds upkeep, while assisting senior personnel on larger projects.
Operates a range of marine, land-based, and construction machinery and vehicles.
Maintains and repairs diverse equipment and vehicles.
Provides information to the public as needed and addresses inquiries related to agency programs and initiatives.
Ensures the safe use of state-owned and managed grounds and facilities by the public.
Completes necessary forms and applications; maintains detailed records and reports of daily activities, tool and equipment inventories, fuel consumption, service logs, and related tasks.

Qualifications

Requirements for the Environmental Conservation Technician

Applicants must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas: At least six months of experience in operating and maintaining vehicles, landscaping, and groundskeeping equipment, as well as hand tools. At least six months of experience in plant life, horticulture, or arboriculture, including knowledge of plant growth, pest and disease management, groundskeeping, or landscaping. Understanding of prioritizing, assigning, and reviewing the work of others. A valid Driver's License is required (must not be suspended, revoked, or cancelled).
