Position Overview:

  • Supports the preparation and dispensing of outpatient medication orders under the direct oversight of a licensed pharmacist. Responsible for maintaining and ordering essential pharmacy supplies. Engages actively in patient discharge processes through the transitions of care program. Proficient in utilizing all necessary equipment and tools for the procurement, storage, preparation, and distribution of medications, including computer systems and pill counting devices. Successfully completes required hospital and regulatory assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Precisely interprets and processes all outpatient medication orders, playing a vital role in the management and distribution of myPenn Pharmacy medications under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. Assists the pharmacist with third-party billing processes. Conducts inventory checks and restocks supplies as needed. Ensures adequate inventory levels across all pharmacy areas and organizes drug orders. Regularly checks expiration dates of stock and performs annual inventory assessments. Removes outdated, damaged, and recalled items for return. Gathers necessary information for prescriptions, including insurance details and patient demographics. Provides assistance to customers with inquiries. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves data from the pharmacy computer system and operates relevant technology. Manages cash register operations, including processing cash, checks, and credit transactions; bags merchandise, maintains insurance logs, and directs inquiries appropriately. Responds to phone calls and customer questions, referring medical inquiries to the pharmacist.
Qualifications:
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required upon hire or within six months of employment.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Previous experience in a retail pharmacy setting is preferred.
