Key Responsibilities

Summary:

The Clinical Support Specialist collaborates with healthcare providers to evaluate, plan, and deliver outstanding patient care while implementing care plans. This role involves documenting clinical test results and communicating findings to physicians, alongside performing both administrative and clinical tasks.

Core Duties:

2. Administrative Functions
  • Front desk duties, including answering calls and scheduling appointments
  • Welcoming patients, completing registration forms, and providing instructions
  • Maintaining and organizing medical records with proper documentation
  • Coordinating hospital admissions and external referrals for physicians
  • Processing prescription requests to pharmacies
  • Utilizing appropriate medical terminology in communications
  • Collaborating with pharmacies and insurance providers on prior authorizations
  • Adhering to legal and ethical professional standards.

3. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Documenting patient interviews, medical history, and primary complaints
  • Accurately measuring vital signs
  • Performing routine EKGs and documenting results
  • Possessing a strong understanding of current medications and prescribing guidelines
  • Preparing and administering medications, vaccines, and treatments, understanding their purposes and potential side effects
  • Administering respiratory therapies, such as nebulizer treatments
  • Changing dressings, applying bandages, and performing first aid procedures
  • Conducting phlebotomy and specimen collection
  • Providing patient education regarding office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments, and dietary needs
  • Assisting physicians during examinations and minor surgical procedures
  • Managing supplies and equipment, including sterilizing instruments
  • Maintaining accurate temperature logs for refrigerators and conducting spore testing on autoclaves
  • Disposing of biohazard waste in compliance with OSHA standards
  • Ensuring accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
  • Maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies such as HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA.

4. Patient Care Accountability
  • Ensuring patients receive comprehensive information and answers regarding their health and treatment plans
  • Completing all necessary documentation for the observation, planning, and evaluation of patient care
  • Tracking patients through radiology, laboratory, and other referrals
  • Assisting physicians with History and Physical examinations
  • Managing inventory of sample medications and conducting monthly checks for expired medications.

5. General Practice Requirements
  • Maintaining current certification and fulfilling all continuing medical education (CME) requirements, including CPR
  • Undergoing physical examinations and annual TB skin testing
  • Providing telephone coverage and returning patient calls daily
  • Assisting front office staff with scheduling and clerical tasks
  • Refraining from discussing Patient Health Information in public in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
  • Demonstrating flexibility to cover various medical offices as needed
  • Adhering to departmental dress codes and wearing identification badges at all times.

Position Requirements

Credentials (Essential):
* Certified Medical Assistant

Education (Essential):
* High School Diploma

Experience:
At least 1 year of prior experience in a medical or physician office setting.

Demonstrates performance standards (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that enhance patient satisfaction and service excellence principles.

Performs additional duties as assigned. The individual will possess a combination of education, experience, and qualifications that align with the role.
