Role Purpose:
We are in search of a strategic and collaborative GIS Manager to spearhead and enhance GIS initiatives within our Utility division. In this crucial position, you will ensure that local GIS operations align with the overarching Corporate GIS strategy and the broader objectives of Veolia Environnement SA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of strategic GIS initiatives to improve and optimize GIS functionalities within the Utility division.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships across Utility operations to ensure effective alignment with corporate and divisional strategies.
- Enhance the performance of GIS workflows, advocate for data integrity, and improve the utilization and efficiency of GIS across local departments.
- Ensure adherence to GIS technical policies, best practices, and established governance standards.
- Act as a subject matter expert on technical committees for projects and applications that utilize GIS and integrate with various data systems.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Promote GIS best practices: Work closely with local GIS departments to establish and maintain high standards for GIS operations.
- Support team development: Mentor team members, identify skill gaps, and provide opportunities for professional growth.
- Establish strong partnerships: Engage with key stakeholders across departments to encourage collaboration and successful GIS initiatives.
- Represent the Utility: Serve as a subject matter expert on technical committees and advocate for the strategic application of GIS throughout the organization.
- Oversee GIS operations: Manage all aspects of the Utility GIS teams, including data collection, maintenance, analytics, project management, and team performance.
- Drive continuous improvement: Regularly assess and enhance GIS workflows to increase efficiency and optimize resource use.
- Ensure data quality: Develop and enforce GIS processes based on industry standards and best practices, collaborating with external contractors to maintain data integrity.
- Innovate solutions: Identify and implement creative uses of GIS systems to enhance workforce efficiency and drive business value.
- Monitor and report progress: Define, track, and communicate meaningful departmental metrics to leadership, showcasing the impact of GIS initiatives.
- Support strategic objectives: Complete tasks assigned by the Corporate GIS Director to fulfill the goals outlined in the GIS Strategic Roadmap.
Other responsibilities as assigned. Some travel may be required to utility sites.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of experience in GIS utilizing the ESRI product suite.
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role.
- 3+ years of experience leading GIS projects or serving as a subject matter expert.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in ESRI's ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related applications.
- Extensive experience with enterprise geodatabases and data management best practices.
- Familiarity with commercial-grade GPS units.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Exceptional leadership abilities, fostering an inclusive work environment.
- Proven experience coordinating GIS projects across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation capabilities.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to advocate for GIS solutions and promote awareness of its value across the organization.
- Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience in budgeting processes, including project budget management.
- Strategic thinker capable of balancing local needs with organizational objectives.
- GISP, PMP, ACP, or other relevant certifications preferred, but not mandatory.
