Job Summary

This position is for a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Air National Guard Units. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to materiel distribution activities, including organic ground transportation for cargo and personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, inspect, and move parts, assemblies, components, and equipment into and out of industrial shops.
  • Examine items received to verify part numbers, identify, correct quantities, condition, and destination.
  • Identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs and initiating discrepancy reports.
  • Ensure accountability, complete log books, maintenance records, reports, and other transportation documents for accurate accounting.
  • Interpret packing manuals and specifications and determine containers, protective devices, cushioning materials, methods, and techniques needed for packing a variety of tools, parts, equipment, and other items.
  • Select the proper type of grade of wood, Masonite, plastic, or other materials needed and plan how to best utilize materials available.
  • Determine proper identification, marking, labeling, and inclusion of shipping documents and special handling instructions on all shipments.
  • Determine freight shipping requirements consistent with efficiency and transportation priorities.
  • Contact local carriers for rates and arrange for pickup and delivery services ensuring the consolidation of shipments when necessary.
  • Procure military and commercial passenger travel reservations and prepare travel documents.
  • Operate primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds.
  • Operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers to transport personnel or pick up and deliver supplies, materials, or equipment.
  • Couple and uncouple truck tractor and semi-trailer or truck and trailer, and connect and disconnect the air brakes and electrical lines.
  • Drive fork lift trucks over wood, concrete, or similar type floors through narrow aisles in buildings and in such confined spaces as railroad cars or trucks.
  • Drive one or more types of trucks to include pickup, panel, and flatbed trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less on local and public roads at highway speeds.
  • Ensure procedures are followed when working with dangerous and hazardous cargo such as ammunition, radioactive, and corrosive material.
Requirements
  • Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.
  • Must possess specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on straight in line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 pounds.
  • Must possess specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to operate truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers and motor coaches.
  • Must possess specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, fuel trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds) and up to 14,400 kilograms (less than 32,000 pounds).
  • Must possess specialized experience which demonstrates the ability to operate and perform operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, ambulances or patient transport vehicles, passenger shuttle vans, and cargo vans which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) and up to 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds).

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
