Job Description

As a key member of the Customer Experience Consumer Relations team at AltaGas, the Consumer Specialist plays a vital role in resolving customer inquiries, issues, and complaints, particularly those directed to regulatory agencies. This subject matter expert will serve as a liaison between the company and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with tariffs and jurisdictional regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and resolve customer inquiries and complaints, providing written responses as required by regulatory commissions.
  • Investigate complaints to ensure company compliance with tariffs and jurisdictional regulations.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with regulatory commissions to establish and maintain rapport with commission staff.
  • Represent the company at informal and formal hearings, resolving customer disputes and regulatory matters.
  • Act as an internal and external interpreter of tariffs and General Service Provisions related to customer disputes and inquiries.
  • Maintain statistics on casework and manage the Consumer Relations central e-mailbox.
  • Monitor actions to ensure resolution of customer complaints in compliance with regulations and tariffs.
  • Complete accounting adjustments to correct company records.
  • Analyze problems and evaluate alternative solutions to ensure successful implementation of business plans.
  • Serve as a historical and information resource for all departments, including Regulatory Affairs and Business Development.
  • Participate in the implementation and evaluation of work guidelines, systems, and processes.
  • Interact with external audiences to interpret guidelines and procedures and/or resolve daily problems associated with units programs, systems, and services.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 7+ years of business and customer contact experience, preferably in a Customer Service environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of company policies, procedures, tariffs, and billing systems.
  • Ability to resolve complex regulatory/executive issues.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment to recommend adjustments and considerations when appropriate to rectify service issues.
  • Ability to articulate to the judicial systems and regulatory commissions, as required.
  • Demonstrated project management/leadership ability, preferably in a Customer Service environment.
  • Ability to logically analyze and resolve business problems and disputes, and to successfully negotiate business agreements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex messages to diverse audiences at all organization levels.
