The Office of Technology Licensing (OTL) plays a vital role in transforming scientific discoveries into beneficial products and services, aligning with the mission of a leading educational institution committed to research, education, and community service.
OTL is primarily focused on delivering exceptional support to foster innovative research conducted by faculty and students.
The New Ventures and Technology Licensing Associate will report directly to the Director of the Office of Technology Licensing and will collaborate with other OTL team members, as well as faculty and researchers, to cultivate and manage new venture initiatives derived from academic research.
This role demands a high standard of ethics, integrity, and respect for the educational and research mission in all professional interactions.
Responsibilities- Deliver outstanding service to faculty, researchers, and students regarding technology transfer, intellectual property, and new ventures.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on promising technologies and concepts.
- Prepare initial documentation for potential new ventures.
- Establish and maintain a network of entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, and advisors to assist faculty in launching new ventures.
- Promote new venture opportunities to interested entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate partners.
- Oversee various administrative functions related to entrepreneurship and new venture initiatives.
- Build and nurture relationships with faculty, research staff, and students, as well as other university offices and centers.
- Negotiate and draft options, licensing agreements, research agreements, and similar documents; assist faculty in negotiating founder and equity agreements.
- Manage a portfolio of technologies and licensing opportunities.
- Lead special projects and initiatives as required.
QualificationsEssential Qualifications:
- A degree in life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant field or position related to new ventures.
- Ability to work independently while managing a diverse array of tasks and projects with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Capability to develop and sustain a professional network.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A solid work ethic and a collaborative spirit.
- Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and commitment to completion.
- A dedication to the institution's values and a strong ethical foundation are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or MBA).
- Previous experience in an academic setting or industry.
- Background in computer science, physics, or mechanical or electrical engineering.
