Job Summary/Purpose: The role involves the upkeep of utility Steam Turbines and Generators, focusing on the continuous observation and comprehension of the equipment's standard operating parameters and limitations. Utilize maintenance expertise to execute repairs and comprehensive overhauls of plant machinery. Engage in troubleshooting defective equipment, assisting in project planning, and evaluating costs.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Carry out maintenance tasks on various equipment across the facility, including rotating machinery, manual and control valves, and understanding power plant systems. This includes the initiation and cessation of equipment operations, isolating and restoring equipment for maintenance following Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) protocols, and overseeing boiler water chemistry equipment.
  • Employ fundamental principles of mechanical measuring instruments, controls, and regulatory devices utilized in generating facilities.
  • Diagnose, identify, and repair plant machinery, including executing preventative maintenance activities.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience regarding the operational principles and functions of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, and their controls, along with auxiliary systems.
  • Adhere to all Fossil Safety Processes/Practices, Utility Group Safety Process, and Environmental policies/practices. Participate in monthly safety meetings and be open to involvement in the Safety Committee or Awareness Team.
  • During unit outages, manage contractors, ensuring quality control, cost management, and schedule adherence.
  • Communicate and interface with both internal and external stakeholders, including dispatchers, directors, and contractors.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred: 2-year technical school degree with a focus on ICE Technician skills or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • MO Helper I - MO: 0-2 years of experience in Operations or a related field. Entry-level candidates with a background in Process Technology/Instrumentation are encouraged to apply.
  • OT: 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Operator or equivalent process operator experience.
  • Preferred: Industrial experience with at least 5 years of ICE Technician experience. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in turbine generator overhauls, fan maintenance, valve repairs, pump overhauls, machining skills, and other mechanical maintenance tasks.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the basic principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulatory devices used in steam electric plants.
  • Familiarity with the operational principles and functions of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, and their controls, as well as auxiliary systems.

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test is required.
