Columbia University is seeking a skilled Handyperson A to join our team as a Maintenance and Repair Specialist. This role is responsible for performing minor building and grounds repairs and preventive maintenance of CU apartment buildings.

• Perform Minor Repairs and Maintenance: Conduct carpentry, plumbing, and plastering work to ensure the upkeep of CU apartment buildings.
• Inspect and Maintain Equipment: Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on absorption air conditioning systems, steam boilers, fan coil units, cooling towers, and package air conditioning units to ensure they are in proper working condition.
• Supervise Building Employees: Supervise building employees and arrange work schedules as needed to ensure efficient operations.
• Perform Additional Tasks: Perform tasks such as snow removal and apartment preparation on an as-needed basis.
• Communicate Effectively: Communicate effectively with colleagues and take direction from the Building Superintendent.

• Education: High School diploma and/or equivalent required.
• Experience: Seven years of related experience required, with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
• Computer Proficiency: Computer proficiency is necessary for this role.
• Technical Knowledge: Well-versed in the proper operation and maintenance of absorption air conditioning chiller units and their auxiliaries, as well as oil-fired low-pressure boilers and their auxiliaries.
