Surgical Technologist (Full-Time Days)

Key Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in patient care during surgical procedures by preparing and managing sterile instruments and supplies under the supervision of the registered nurse and surgeon. Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately labeling and managing patient specimens.
  • Executing Surgical Technologist skills as per the unit's defined scope of practice.
  • Ensuring a clean and organized environment in the operating room.
  • Responding to delegated tasks appropriately, refraining from performing non-delegated skills.
  • Recognizing and acting on emergency situations effectively.
  • Implementing safe infection control measures.
  • Assisting nursing staff and physicians during patient procedures.
  • Engaging in preceptor activities as needed.
  • Participating in at least one elective educational opportunity annually.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of aseptic techniques in preparation for surgical interventions.
  • Setting up the operating room and preparing instruments for surgeries.
  • Providing necessary supplies and equipment during surgical operations.
  • Acquiring skills to operate specialized surgical equipment.
  • Assisting with preoperative and postoperative patient care as directed by nursing staff.
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of surgical procedures and the required instruments.
  • Supporting patient transport and additional care duties within the operating room.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Surgical Technology from an accredited program or certification from a recognized body; or
  • A minimum of four years of experience as a surgical technologist with a High School Diploma; or
  • Four years of relevant on-the-job or military surgical technology training with a High School Diploma.

Licenses and Certifications

Certification as a Surgical Technologist is required within one year of hire if initially employed without certification.


Additional Information

On-call duties are required with a response time of 30 minutes.
