This role focuses on providing professional and non-professional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. The position works under the supervision of a professional nurse and collaborates to meet the needs of the patient within the scope of the role.
Key Responsibilities- Assists the professional registered nurse in the functional care of patients, ensuring efficient and patient-centered care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
- Provides or assists with patient care procedures, ensures patient safety, comfort, and dignity while always advocating for the patient.
- Collects specimens, including phlebotomy, and performs specimen testing while maintaining Standard Precautions.
- Greets patients, families, visitors, and other staff according to service standards and responds to patient and family requests promptly.
- Collects, records, and communicates the patient's clinical data to the assigned nurse in a timely manner.
- Prepares room for admission/transfer/discharge, assuring standardized equipment is ready for use.
- Transports or accompanies patients as necessary to other areas of the hospital in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner.
- Provides comfort measures such as positioning, changing linen, back rubs, etc. to patients in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner.
- Responsible for care of biomedical equipment, checking par levels and working order for blood pressure cuffs, EKG cables, leads, oximeter cables, etc.
- Cleans wounds, applies dressings, and assists with orthopedic procedures, sutures, Pelvic Exams, Glucose Monitoring, and other Point of Care (POC) testing.
- Performs 12-lead EKG and connects monitoring equipment to patients under the direction of the nurse.
- Cares for patient belongings and completes belongings list.
- Performs and documents patient's admission, transfer, and discharge tasks as requested by the nurse.
- Answers call lights and seeks appropriate personnel/action and performs hourly rounding per established guidelines.
- Remains in constant communication regarding the status of all patients, including transfers, admissions, discharges, bed changes, bed cleaning requests, and possible changes through the shift.
- Supports effective and efficient communication for the nursing unit by promptly answering phone, triaging calls, and relaying messages to staff using appropriate etiquette.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Must pass Phlebotomy Competency training within 3 months.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) preferred.
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT or AEMT) preferred.
- Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program preferred.
- One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT) preferred.
- Two (2) years of Healthcare experience, acute setting preferred.
