Job Title: Nurse Consultant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Nurse Consultant to join our team in the Department of Public Health. As a Nurse Consultant, you will be responsible for providing expert nursing advice to healthcare facilities and institutions, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site inspections of healthcare facilities and institutions to ensure compliance with licensure and certification laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Provide consultation to healthcare facilities and institutions on nursing services, home health services, and specialized problems in public health.
  • Evaluate the quality of services rendered by facilities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Monitor facilities during strikes and prepare relevant federal and state forms and reports.
  • May testify in court relative to findings of inspections and/or investigations.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) years of experience as a professional nurse in a position involving administration, consultation, education, or supervision.
  • Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a public health nursing program, home health care agency, community health care setting, or in a hospital.
  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
  • A Master's degree in health services administration, nursing, or public health may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience organizing data and evaluating and analyzing proper care and treatment in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and professional standards in healthcare.
  • Experience with computerized data bases, electronic medical records, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with conducting investigations and documenting facts, findings, and outcomes.
  • Experience with independently interviewing consumers, healthcare providers, and healthcare beneficiaries.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license as a registered professional nurse in Connecticut.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
