Position Overview:
The Community Safety Shift Lead is responsible for providing guidance and leadership within the department by exemplifying GLIDE's core values and commitment to community service and safety. In this role, you will oversee department personnel to carry out various responsibilities that support the daily operations aimed at ensuring safety and assistance to GLIDE's programs, facilities, and special events. The Shift Lead will assign tasks, offer coaching, and demonstrate effective engagement strategies for staff to interact safely and respectfully with a diverse community facing various challenges, while fostering positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
This position may require extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Consistent and reliable attendance is essential, with schedule flexibility based on organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage work schedules, including meal position charts and duty checklists.
- Ensure compliance by monitoring staff breaks and meal periods.
- Oversee the setup, execution, and wrap-up of each Free Meals Program shift, ensuring all tasks are completed.
- Direct daily activities related to safety support and security for designated buildings and events.
- Assist in the organization of special events, including setup, staffing, and cleanup.
- Respond to conflicts, alarms, disturbances, and emergencies, coordinating with local authorities as necessary.
- Document and investigate incidents involving clients and staff, preparing reports for management review.
- Participate in weekly meetings as directed by management.
- Communicate important occurrences and observations that affect staff morale and operations to management.
- Provide ongoing coaching to staff on professional conduct and conflict management.
- Engage in regular training to enhance skills in client engagement and safety protocols.
- Stay informed about GLIDE's services and community resources to assist staff in providing accurate information.
- Collaborate with other departments to address issues and provide safety expertise.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role within a community-based organization.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required within three months of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Certification must be obtained within three months of hire.
- Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of de-escalation techniques are essential.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and strategies for protecting individuals and property.
- Ability to respond effectively to high-pressure situations and work in a challenging environment.
Physical Requirements:
- This role may be physically demanding, requiring standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and navigate multiple flights of stairs.
- Effective communication skills are necessary for interaction with staff and community members.
Compensation for this position ranges from $28 to $30 per hour and is covered by the collective bargaining agreement.
