Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Manager to join their Boston-based Enterprise Business Solutions Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated manager who has successfully led cross-functional, global, complex projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end oversight of strategic digital transformation and enterprise application initiatives, including technical design, development, and successful deployment of applications. They will also be accountable for driving the product vision and roadmap, eliciting and curating requirements while managing associated projects.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of software development lifecycle, data models, and data flows. They will also have experience in cloud-first solutions, migrating legacy solutions to cloud solutions, and pros/cons of various approaches such as serverless, PaaS, IaaS, and DBaaS.

The Software Development Manager will work closely with offshore project teams and BHSI business stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget. They will also be responsible for coaching, mentoring, motivating, and supervising offshore project and program teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of complex projects that span one or multiple regions and P&C lines of business.
  • Provide leadership to project teams to ensure that all projects align with the BHSI digital roadmap and long-term vision.
  • Facilitate sessions with internal and external stakeholders to analyze business and user needs.
  • Demonstrate a functional acumen to support how solutions will address company goals.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise offshore project and program teams.
  • Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Engineer, guide, and implement technical solutions and improvements.
  • Actively participate in solution design and ensure alignment of technical architecture with the technology roadmap.
  • Partner with other Enterprise Architects/product managers to develop a unified direction on how to leverage existing tools, data stores, and frameworks.
  • Oversee development activity and provide guidance to team members.
  • Present technical solutions to the Enterprise Architecture Review Board.
  • Help create documentation to provide user support for programs and for production/operating procedures.
  • Drive education of the broader team on core concepts around cloud computing, big data cloud platforms, and architecture frameworks.
  • Facilitate assessment of business requirements in relation to the overall goals.
  • Drive quantifiable efficiencies through automated testing and work with teams to transition to a true dev/ops model.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize processes and tools.
  • Support additional technical projects as needed.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of overall technology experience with proven experience in building applications and delivering software solutions and services in line with agile methodologies.
  • 10+ years of experience with full product/development lifecycle with deep understanding in .Net, Microservices, GitHub, Power Platform, AI builder, SharePoint, Angular, SQL, CI/CD pipelines preferably in Azure platform.
  • 5+ years of experience managing people.
  • Working knowledge of Agile work management tools such as Jira/Confluence, Azure Dev Ops, etc.
  • Strong experience in SDLC, data models, data flows.
  • Proven expertise in cloud-first and experience migrating legacy solutions to cloud solutions along with pros/cons of various approaches serverless, PaaS, IaaS, DBaaS, etc.
  • Research best practices within and outside the organization to establish benchmark data and use continuous process improvement disciplines to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a highly matrixed organization through a combination of influence, partnership, and authority while managing various project and program team sizes, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance.
  • Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
  • Quick learner with ability to adapt to upcoming technology trends & apply them.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, subject matter experts, and vendor resources.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships by engaging business leaders to establish credibility, solve problems, build consensus, and achieve objectives.
  • Flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty Insurance industry is desirable.
