Project Engineer Job Description

Layton Construction is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to assist Project Managers in ensuring that work installed on the project meets plan and specification requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assure compliance by reviewing project plans and specifications, and communicating inconsistencies to the architect.
  • Recommend labor-saving and cost-saving methods to reduce project costs.
  • Attend project team meetings, take notes, and distribute meeting minutes to participants.
  • Publish weekly progress reports and update project schedules as needed.
  • Assist in bidding and developing scope of work for trade contractors.
  • Work with the superintendent to prepare project schedules and follow up on shop drawings and milestones.
  • Maintain logs reflecting the status of shop drawings, requests for clarification, change requests, and proposal requests.
  • Advises on proper procedures for concrete pours and inspects structural reinforcing.
  • Coordinates standard slump and compaction testing to verify compliance to specifications.
  • Reviews field procedures and final installation of structural elements to ensure compliance of the work.
  • Performs work sampling and observes and analyzes work methods, techniques, and procedures to advise the superintendent on improvement of production efficiency.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to the supervisor and/or Safety.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field, or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express self clearly and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility, cooperation, and the ability to learn new job-related information quickly.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints and apply OSHA and company safety requirements.
