Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled Braille Instructional Assistant to support the instruction and activities of blind and visually impaired students. The successful candidate will be responsible for transcribing written materials into literary Braille, tactile, and large print formats, and providing one-to-one and group instruction to students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transcribe written materials into Braille, tactile, and large print formats
  • Provide one-to-one and group instruction to students on Braille usage
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a learning environment that meets the needs of visually impaired students
  • Relay technical needs to program instructors and administrators
  • Accurately maintain and relay data on student progress
  • Follow behavioral management strategies and techniques
  • Assist in organizing and preparing instructional materials
Requirements
  • Certification as a Literary Braille Transcriber or Proofreader is preferred
  • Minimum six months of experience performing basic Braille transcription
  • Ability to use computer notation and other electronic equipment used by the blind and visually impaired
  • Knowledge and skill related to embossing tools, media, and tactile materials
  • Flexibility, cooperation, and ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality
