Job Summary
The City of Myrtle Beach is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the city jail, ensuring the well-being of inmates, and providing exceptional customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities
• Enforce all rules and regulations of the jail, maintaining a safe and secure environment for inmates and staff.
• Conduct thorough searches of inmates, cells, and facilities to prevent contraband and maintain order.
• Process incoming inmates, explaining jail rules and procedures, and securing personal property.
• Prepare in-processing documentation, make photographs and fingerprint records, and obtain NCIC background reports.
• Monitor inmate activities, take and record headcounts, and conduct medical/sick call to distribute medications.
• Maintain security of the facility, perform periodic security checks, and monitor video surveillance equipment.
• Supervise inmates during visitation, meals, and medical call, reporting unusual observations to superiors.
• Respond to emergencies, operate fire suppression equipment, administer medications, and provide first-aid and/or CPR when needed.
• Complete SLED mandates DNA swab on inmates, file paperwork, and complete property vouchers.
• Perform other related duties as required, including transporting inmates, maintaining the sally port, and disposing of property.

Requirements
• High school diploma or GED; no previous experience required; some public relations experience in a similar jail or law enforcement environment preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license, be at least 18 years of age, and a U.S. Citizen or resident status.
• Must pass and maintain the following certifications: NCIC, Basic Jail Officer, Juvenile Specifics, Firearm qualification, basic first-aid, and FEMA NIMS Incident Command.
• Must be trained in CPR and maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
