Position Summary:

A Retail Sales Specialist III/Shift Supervisor plays a vital role in creating a memorable shopping experience by actively engaging with customers and implementing the sales strategies established by Ten Thousand Villages, all while upholding high standards of customer service. This position is involved in various essential tasks that contribute to the effective operation of the store, aids in the training of Sales Associate I and II roles, and oversees staff during designated shifts in the absence of store management.

This role supports the mission of Ten Thousand Villages by:

acting as a crucial link between artisan partners and customers. The success of this position is essential for Ten Thousand Villages to sustain or enhance its mission impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with customers effectively by following the Ten Thousand Villages sales approach.
  • Differentiate Ten Thousand Villages from competitors by articulating the mission and sharing stories about products and artisan partners.
  • Proactively identify and resolve customer service challenges.
  • Execute opening and closing tasks, including balancing cash registers, completing necessary paperwork, securing the store, and ensuring all lights and devices are turned off after hours.
  • Monitor store performance metrics such as sales targets, conversion rates, and transaction values, striving to meet these goals through exceptional customer service and effective sales techniques.
  • Collaborate with the store team to ensure consistent sales floor coverage.
  • Participate in ongoing training and attend team meetings regularly.
  • Maintain vigilance regarding loss prevention through attentive customer service.
  • Keep displays and back office areas organized and clean.
  • Receive, price, and stock merchandise as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while respecting the contributions of all members.
  • Assist in training Sales Associate I/II roles and volunteers.
  • Supervise staff during assigned shifts to ensure adherence to customer service standards and objectives.
  • Support the execution of store events that enhance customer traffic and facilitate effective offsite sales opportunities.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager that contribute to the success of the position and the mission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service and retail sales.
  • Self-driven and enjoys working with people.
  • Basic math and data entry skills, including the ability to balance cash registers and complete bank deposit documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead within a motivated store team.
  • Ability to display merchandise attractively according to company standards.
  • Commitment to adhere to company dress codes and policies.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position operates in a standard retail environment, not subject to adverse conditions. It requires standing for extended periods and walking for short durations, along with the visual ability to assess the accuracy and neatness of work.
  • The role necessitates the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, grasp, and feel objects of various sizes and textures. Frequent repetitive motion is required, as well as constant hearing and speaking abilities. The capacity to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally is also necessary.
