Job Summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in Hickory Hills, Illinois. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound procedures, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with radiologists to ensure accurate diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients and select technical factors and equipment to obtain optimal-quality scans.
  • Operate portable ultrasound equipment to perform procedures in various hospital settings.
  • Assist radiologists with recommendations for optimal study selection and technical factors.
  • Deliver patient care in accordance with department standards and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Utilize effective communication and phone etiquette skills.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies.
  • Follow in-and-out patient identification policies.
  • Ensure timely patient flow in room assignments or work areas.
  • Treat patients and customers with respect and compassion.
  • Transport patients as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Document department records, including inventory and patient statistics.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assemble daily schedules.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Operate Hospital Information Computer Systems as required.
  • Secure patient history for each procedure to provide radiologists with necessary information.
  • Maintain positive guest relations with patients, colleagues, and other personnel.
  • Work closely with radiologists to ensure optimal outcomes for each procedure.
  • Comply with established safety standards to ensure patient and staff well-being.
  • Maintain annual CPR certification.
  • Operate equipment safely in accordance with hospital and department policies.
  • Use standard precautions to protect against bodily fluid exposure.
  • Maintain hospital department disaster, fire, and evacuation policies.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and meetings.
  • Stay current with ultrasound skills and new developments in the field.
  • Provide instruction and assistance to students and fellow technologists.
Requirements
  • ARDMS Registry eligibility.
  • Successful completion of ARDMS Registry within the first year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High degree of technical knowledge to perform specialized U/S studies with minimal assistance.
  • Able to make diagnostic judgments and present them to radiologists for interpretation.
  • ARDMS Registry eligibility.
  • CPR Certification.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to adjust to flexible hours and respond to emergency call-backs.
  • Ability to work odd hours, including late shifts and on-call.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and view small CRT screens during exams.
  • Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients.
  • Exposure to radiation.
  • Ability to operate portable equipment.
  • Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.
  • Ability to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to adjust to flexible work hours.
  • Ability to participate in on-call programs and meet department needs with minimal notice.
  • Ability to perform light, medium, or heavy lifting.
  • Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills.
  • Ability to practice high-quality patient care and technical competence.
  • Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as film processing chemicals.

Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment.

  • This position requires recognizing needs and behaviors of various age groups of patients treated.
  • If the position has direct patient care or direct patient contact, the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.
