*Candidates will be assigned to the appropriate job title based on their qualifications and experience. The compensation rates provided are for the Medical Assistant position.
As a Medical Assistant, your role will involve assisting healthcare providers with diverse patient care tasks, including administrative, environmental, and organizational responsibilities, all aimed at ensuring patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage patient schedules and facilitate smooth patient flow.
- Escort patients to examination or procedure rooms.
- Assist patients with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations.
- Gather patient information and medical history; measure vital signs and conduct screenings as per provider protocols.
- Communicate instructions to patients and their families.
- Handle patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and relevant regulations.
- Prepare examination rooms and set up medical instruments and equipment according to departmental standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of examination and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment to uphold infection control standards.
- Oversee inventory management of medical supplies and restock as necessary.
- Adhere to guidelines set by regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
- Ensure confidentiality of medical records and sensitive information.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the UPMC Health System.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests.
- Assist physicians during medical procedures.
- Document patient information accurately in medical records.
- Answer phone calls and provide relevant information, including patient education as directed.
- Obtain laboratory and imaging reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Complete necessary forms and requisitions.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and patient demographic information.
- Organize and manage patient charts to ensure proper documentation and filing.
- Perform additional front office duties as required.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience in direct patient care is preferred.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology, examination protocols, and treatment room duties are essential.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both theoretical and practical components within 30 days of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is necessary.
