Position Overview: We are in search of CATV Field Sweep Technicians to execute troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, coax splicing, installation, activation, and repair of Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) distribution systems. Key responsibilities include maintaining system balance using test equipment, setting up system sweep generators, and performing various related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate Outside Plant (OSP) hardware and infrastructure, including reviewing plant documentation and understanding OSP diagrams.
  • Perform a balanced workload of hardline coax splicing and sweep/activation tasks.
  • Address customer network issues and enhance overall network performance using sweep equipment and CATV testing tools.
  • Collaborate with customers, subcontractors, and team members to gather project requirements.
  • Conduct targeted system sweeps, document results, and compile system reports.
  • Set up head end and meter configurations.
  • Diagnose and resolve plant-related issues to minimize noise and impairments in the cable system.
  • Conduct DOCSIS 3.1 testing and assessments.
  • Calculate signal losses and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Understand project scopes of work and manage escalation processes.
  • Provide accurate daily updates for productivity tracking and project billing.
  • Share technical knowledge and stay updated on advancements in the field.
  • Install fiber optic enclosures and related equipment as needed.
  • Install in-line devices for system upgrades as required.
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in hardline coax splicing is required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a HFC Sweep/Technician role is necessary.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting within a CATV Outside Plant environment is essential.
  • Experience with splicing optical nodes and related equipment in various locations is required.
  • Familiarity with setting up and optimizing optical node equipment is preferred.
  • Experience with testing equipment such as TDRs and signal level meters is necessary.
  • Hands-on experience with Viavi/JDSU gear for sweep and DOCSIS testing is essential.
  • General understanding of HFC headend combining and basic knowledge of CMTS and FTTX is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail is crucial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Capability to work independently and follow directions effectively.

Work Schedule: The shift is Monday to Friday, with hours between 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and/or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. CST, with the possibility of working outside normal hours for system maintenance.

Additional Information:

  • Travel is approximately 75%, typically involving 14 days on-site followed by 5 days off.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Must pass a DOT Medical Examination for certification.
  • This position allows for remote work when not traveling.

*Compensation: Base salary range of 50k-72k plus incentives.
