Mechanical Technician for Hydroelectric Operations

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within a hydroelectric power facility. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical equipment and the ability to perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Lead the checkout, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems including, but not limited to, pumps, turbines, generators, and HVAC systems.

2. Maintain a clean and organized work environment while adhering to safety protocols.

3. Collaborate with engineering teams to modify, install, or replace mechanical components, utilizing blueprints and schematics.

4. Conduct inspections to identify defects, diagnose operational issues, and implement corrective actions.

5. Perform operational tests, lubricate machinery, and verify clearances to ensure optimal performance.

6. Engage in preventive and predictive maintenance activities to enhance equipment reliability.

7. Operate shop equipment and perform basic welding tasks as needed.

8. Balance and align mechanical systems to ensure proper functionality.

9. Stay updated on mechanical systems and participate in training sessions to maintain qualifications.

10. Assist in the preliminary design of modifications to mechanical systems.


Qualifications:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience in a power generation environment.

Licenses and Certifications: A valid driver's license that meets company insurance requirements.


Skills:


1. Proficient in reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.

2. Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.

3. Capability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in confined spaces.

4. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

5. Experience in troubleshooting mechanical equipment malfunctions.

6. Ability to provide guidance and direction to other mechanics and contractors.
