New York County New York, United States Radar Full time
About Us

Radar provides location infrastructure for various products and services.

Leading companies utilize Radar's geofencing SDKs and mapping APIs to enhance location-based experiences across millions of devices globally.

Established in 2016, Radar operates from New York, NY, and has secured $85.5M in funding from top venture capital firms, including Accel and Insight Partners.

About the Role

We are seeking Product Engineers to develop features across backend, frontend, and mobile platforms.

In the past year, our SDKs have been integrated into over 100 million devices worldwide, with a consistent traffic rate of 10,000 queries per second.

Our SDKs are open-source, abstracting cross-platform differences in location services, enabling you to incorporate geofencing, location tracking, and mapping into your applications with minimal code.

You will also contribute to our demo applications, including 'Waypoint,' which is utilized internally and by clients to evaluate the Radar SDK.

How We Operate:
Most of our engineering team comprises former technical co-founders or ex-interns from prestigious institutions.

Our engineers typically fall into two categories: either possessing staff-level expertise in a specific stack or being 'Multi-Stack' at any level.

We refer to 'Multi-Stack' as our engineers may also engage in Mobile or Data engineering, beyond just Frontend and Backend.

While expertise in all areas is not mandatory, a willingness to learn, adapt to various stacks, and deliver results is crucial.

We prioritize rapid shipping and customer interaction.

We are dedicated to our vision of comprehensive location infrastructure, while also valuing customer feedback as a vital resource.

Although we utilize Slack for communication, collaborating in person at our headquarters is the most efficient way to achieve our goals.

We convene weekly to strategize work in small groups and utilize planning tools. Each project is overseen by an Engineering lead, an executive, and a Go-to-Market lead.

Engineers determine what to develop, engage with customers, assist in onboarding, and ensure their success.

One of our core values is 'Walk a mile,' emphasizing the importance of understanding customer perspectives and the real-world functionality of location services.

We believe that a week is a significant timeframe, and we aim to deliver substantial outcomes weekly.

The Technology Stack:
Our mobile stack includes Kotlin, Objective-C, and Swift, along with lightweight cross-platform SDK wrappers for React Native, Capacitor, Flutter, and others.

The frontend utilizes React and is deployed on Vercel.

The server comprises an Express application and a Rust-based Geocoder, utilizing MongoDB, S3/Athena, Redis, Airflow, all hosted on AWS.

Most engineers participate in the on-call rotation.

We support OpenStreetMaps, MapLibre, and OpenAddresses.

The Hiring Process:

Following an initial conversation with our CTO, suitable candidates will be invited for an interview at our headquarters.

During this session, we will collaboratively tackle system design challenges and engage in coding exercises to create a simple project.

You may also meet one of our co-founders, and we will delve deeper into our operational methodologies to assess compatibility.

Your Responsibilities:

Contribute to the core Radar mobile infrastructure developed with Kotlin, Objective-C, and Swift, along with wrapper SDKs in React Native, Flutter, and Capacitor.

Qualifications:

In addition to cash compensation, Radar offers a competitive equity plan with stock option grants to full-time employees.

This represents a meaningful ownership stake in the company as we collectively build a leading organization.
