Position Overview:
The Spira Care Physician plays a pivotal role in delivering advanced primary care in collaboration with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC). Our mission is to provide exemplary primary care to individuals and communities in the Kansas City area. At Spira Care, we prioritize high-value and holistic care. Our clinicians operate at the highest level of their expertise, working alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health consultants, diabetes care specialists, clinical pharmacists, and nursing professionals, all supported by care managers and referral specialists to ensure evidence-based medical care, integrated behavioral health, and attention to complex patient needs. Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the primary healthcare team, utilizing independent medical judgment to deliver advanced primary care in accordance with best practices and Spira Care policies.
  • Provide patient care at least ninety percent of the time, either virtually or in-person at primary care centers and affiliated locations as necessary.
  • Participate in on-call coverage for nights and weekends as required.
  • Engage appropriately with collaborating physicians in line with established policies and best practices.
  • Ensure clear, complete, and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) as per risk management and Spira Care policies.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary healthcare spending through prudent clinical decision-making.
  • Lead team-based care initiatives, such as team huddles.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including environmental and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Participate in the development of clinical initiatives, interventions, and continuous quality improvement activities, collaborating with team members from various functional units.
  • Consult with and adhere to Blue KC Medical Policies regarding coverage and medical necessity, and engage in key utilization management activities.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams in care centers to optimize patient outcomes, including behavioral health consultants, clinical pharmacists, diabetes care specialists, care managers, health coaches, and practice facilitators.
  • Execute collaborative practice agreements or active practice request forms as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD or D.O. degree from an accredited medical institution.
  • Successful completion of a credentialed primary care residency program.
  • Active board certification in a primary care specialty.
  • Licensure in Kansas and Missouri or the ability to obtain licensure by the start date.
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and any state-specific requirements or the ability to obtain them by the start date.
  • BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Maintain all licensures and certifications throughout employment.
  • Compliance with Spira Care's vaccination requirements as a condition of employment, with or without reasonable accommodation based on sincerely held religious beliefs or disabilities.
  • Meet all requirements to provide services under Spira Care's provider agreement with Blue KC.
