Position Overview:
The Spira Care Physician is responsible for delivering high-quality primary care in collaboration with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC). Our mission is to provide exceptional healthcare services to individuals and communities in the Kansas City area. We emphasize holistic care and prioritize the well-being of our patients. Our team of clinicians works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health specialists, diabetes care experts, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff, all supported by care managers and referral specialists to ensure comprehensive medical care, integrated behavioral health, and attention to complex health needs. We are committed to quality, affordability, patient satisfaction, team well-being, and health equity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the primary healthcare team to exercise independent medical judgment and provide advanced primary care in line with best practices and Spira Care policies.
  • Deliver patient care at least ninety percent of the time, either virtually or in-person at primary care and affiliated care centers.
  • Provide on-call coverage for nights and weekends as required.
  • Engage appropriately with collaborating physicians in accordance with established policies and best practices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record system as per risk management and Spira Care policies.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing unnecessary healthcare expenditures through informed clinical decision-making.
  • Lead team-based care efforts, such as team huddles.
  • Adhere to departmental protocols, including infection control and environmental standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable health information privacy regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical initiatives and quality improvement activities in partnership with team members from various functional areas.
  • Consult with and adhere to Blue KC Medical Policies regarding coverage and medical necessity, and engage in key utilization management activities.
  • Work closely with care center teams to optimize patient outcomes, including behavioral health consultants, clinical pharmacists, diabetes care specialists, and care managers.
  • Execute collaborative practice agreements or active practice request forms as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • MD or D.O. degree from an accredited medical institution.
  • Completion of a credentialed primary care residency program.
  • Active board certification in a primary care specialty.
  • Possession of Kansas and Missouri medical licenses or eligibility to obtain them by the start date.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and compliance with any state-specific requirements.
  • BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Ongoing maintenance of licensure and certifications throughout employment.
  • Compliance with Spira Care's vaccination requirements as a condition of employment, with or without reasonable accommodation for sincerely held religious beliefs or disabilities.
  • Fulfillment of all criteria to provide services under Spira Care's provider agreement with Blue KC.
