Job Summary:

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Orthopedic Technician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, the Orthopedic Technician will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and technical support in the orthopedic department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receives and verifies orders from nurses and applies, adjusts, or removes casts, braces, tractions, splints, or other orthopedic devices in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and supplies required for orthopedic services, including traction application.
  • Maintains the Cast Cart, reorders, and changes supplies used during services.
  • Assembles and discontinues traction and trapeze as ordered by physicians in a safe and timely manner.
  • Makes daily rounds on patients using orthopedic equipment to ensure proper adjustment.
  • Provides coverage and assists physicians for MSMC/MHI campuses for orthopedic/rehabilitation inpatients, assisting with procedures, casts, and making rounds with orthopedic physicians as requested.
  • Assists physicians with cast application and removal as requested.
  • Documents Ortho Tech services daily, in compliance with policy and procedures, to maintain accurate and necessary records on patients.
  • Cleans equipment with hospital-approved disinfectant and stores it appropriately when not in use.
  • Maintains updated inventory of ortho tech equipment and submits purchase order forms for needed supplies.
  • Inspects equipment for patient services and reports maintenance or sanitary problems to supervisors.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training, orientation, and educational programs.

Qualifications:

  • Orthopedic Technician Certificate, equivalent Orthopedic Technician military training, or comparable work experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
