Job Title: Vehicle Electronic Technician

SEPTA is seeking a skilled Vehicle Electronic Technician to join our team at the Woodland Shop in the REE&M/REM Woodland Shops.

Job Summary:

The Vehicle Electronic Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electronic and logic equipment on SEPTA vehicles. This includes performing road tests, preparing reports, and using various shop tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct diagnostic tests using equipment such as oscilloscopes, diagnostic testers, and computer systems.
  • Interpret current and voltage waveforms and graphs.
  • Perform operational tests on GPS, announcement, signage, video surveillance, propulsion, and charging systems to determine cause of malfunction and make necessary repairs.
  • Inspect, remove, disassemble, clean, repair, reassemble, adjust, and test modules and associated devices.
  • Monitor proper handling, removal, and installation of modules and report improper handling to the Shop Superintendent.
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings, schematics, instructions, and parts manuals.
  • Replace and repair wiring and connectors.
  • Determine spare parts requirements and prepare requisitions using manuals, parts lists, etc.
  • Maintain inventory records and log of modules repaired.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of repairs through various diagnostic tests and accomplish other reports and records as necessary.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of operation, testing, and repairing of microprocessor-based electronic and logic equipment acquired in technical school or its equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of related experience and proficiency in working from and making mechanical, electrical, electronic, and logic drawings and schematics.
  • Must successfully complete vehicle operations courses, manufacturers, or SEPTA courses as required.
  • Must become familiar with equipment used, functions, and names of items processed and acquire skill in the safe and proper use of shop and test equipment.
