Overview:
The designated job title for this role at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas (PPGT) is "Clinician". The Clinician delivers a wide range of reproductive health services to patients, working collaboratively within the Health Services team to fulfill the clinical requirements of patients as specified in affiliate protocols.

This role involves ordering, interpreting, and documenting clinical test results while consulting with supervising physicians as necessary. The Clinician is responsible for prescribing medications and recommending various treatment options, including contraceptive methods.

Services are provided through both telehealth and in-person consultations, which include: comprehensive history assessments, health education, physical examinations, counseling, diagnosis, and treatment in accordance with established protocols.

The Clinician collaborates closely with management, Health Services, and COMSO to ensure the highest standards of patient care and an exceptional patient experience.

Adherence to the organization's mission is essential in all job functions.

Responsibilities:

Conducts thorough physical examinations with a focus on reproductive health, including breast assessments, pelvic/genital examinations, cancer screening tests, and diagnosing sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Orders and interprets diagnostic tests as permitted by medical protocols. Performs laboratory testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations and according to PPGT's laboratory guidelines.
Provides patient care following all Medical Standards and Guidelines, and/or as directed by a supervising physician. Engages with organization COMSO or designated personnel when deviations from PPGT Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs) occur.
Offers relevant health education, including family planning, sexual health counseling, and principles of health promotion and maintenance.
Accurately documents examination findings and other clinical aspects of patient care in the medical record.
Codes billable services correctly based on medical record documentation using accepted practices, such as Evaluation and Management (E&M), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and diagnosis codes (ICD-10).

Ensures compliance with affiliate policies and procedures, the Texas Medical Practice Act, the Physician Assistant Licensing Act, the Texas Nurse Practice Act, and the regulations established under these acts.

Recognizes the ethical, legal, and professional considerations inherent in providing care to patients throughout their life stages.

Initiates and oversees appropriate follow-up in accordance with PPGT Medical Standards and Guidelines for all abnormal test results and referrals.

Remains knowledgeable about current contraceptive technologies and reproductive and sexual health issues.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education

A Master's degree (or equivalent) and certification in a specialty such as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG PCNP) or as a Physician Assistant (PA).

Minimum Experience
Experience as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant in reproductive health or women's health is strongly preferred.

In the absence of advanced practice experience, candidates must possess direct patient care experience (beyond clinical rotation/externship/internship hours) in roles such as RN, LVN, Medical Assistant, or laboratory technician in a supervised clinical environment, including hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics, nursing homes, or other relevant medical settings (excluding home care).

Required Licenses or Certifications

A valid license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse with prescriptive authority in Texas or a license to practice as a Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board.

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate licenses mentioned above and relevant national certification (NCC, AMCB, AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA) along with CPR BLS certification.
