Description
Job Summary: As a Radiologic Imaging Specialist at Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic, you will be responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment to assist radiologists and/or physicians in diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury. Your primary job responsibilities will include preparing patients for radiologic procedures, protecting patients, self, and other staff from radiation hazards, and taking X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for radiologic procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.
- Protect patients, self, and other staff from radiation hazards by following established safety protocols.
- Take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.
- Select proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis and adjust/set radiographic controls as needed.
- Position patients and take X-rays of specific parts of the patient's body as requested by physicians.
- Develop and process radiological film, checking X-rays for clarity of image and retaking when needed.
- Distribute X-rays to appropriate medical staff and maintain required records, including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports.
- Perform quantity and quality control checks to ensure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.
- Comply with safety standards and maintain radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs and ordering supplies as necessary.
Education: Associate's degree in radiological technology from an accredited X-ray technician program and current state X-Ray Technology certificate or license.
Experience: One to three years of experience as an X-ray technician, preferably in a medical practice environment.
Other Requirements: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration preferred.
Performance Requirements:
- Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing, including body mechanics and patient movement.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment, including safety hazards common to radiology.
- Ability to identify equipment problems and correct or notify supervisor.
- Ability to follow infection control and radiological safety procedures.
- Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required.
- Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings.
- Ability to read and write instructions, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees.
- Ability to competently use Microsoft Office.
Work Environment: Radiological unit. Exposure to disease, radiation, and toxic chemicals in the course of performing the work.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with an X-Ray Technician, including standing six to eight hours per day, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching above the shoulders, twisting, turning, kneeling, and pushing, and pulling. Heavy lifting 75+ lbs. required to move equipment and transfer patients. Occasional stress when working with anxious patients.
