Job Overview

The Thermal Systems Engineer will be part of the GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation team, reporting to the Thermal Design & Secondary Flows Sub-Section Manager within the Engineering Sciences division. This position involves conducting thermal design, analysis, and testing definition activities to support innovative engine programs. Utilizing advanced heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools, you will propose thermal systems that align with program specifications. Applications may include intricate fluid delivery and sealing systems throughout the engine.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties:
  • Assist in the analysis, design, testing, and integration of fluid systems to comply with business standards and program specifications.
  • Conduct thermal evaluations independently using finite element analysis (FEA) and proprietary flow solvers.
  • Collaborate with diverse engineering teams, ensuring alignment of personal objectives with team goals.
  • Address design challenges following established protocols, seeking guidance from supervisors and senior engineers as necessary.
  • Effectively communicate findings and recommendations to technical specialists and program management.
  • Prepare documentation for inventions that enhance competitive positioning.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of technical data in accordance with engineering standards.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on heat transfer and fluid flow design, accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on heat transfer and fluid flow design, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
OR
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with a focus on heat transfer and fluid flow design.
  • This position is limited to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology. Verification of status will be required prior to employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on heat transfer or fluid mechanics.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer principles and compressible flow, including relevant engineering tools and systems.
  • Experience in gas turbine engine design, particularly in cooling circuit design and analysis.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and document engineering tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; shares vital information, communicates openly, and contributes positively.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a large, cross-functional team environment.
  • Demonstrated ownership and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Aware of system-level interactions and able to identify critical inputs, outcomes, and contributors.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
