Position Overview
As a Senior Polymer Materials Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation and business expansion through the development of new products and processes. Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Oversee projects of moderate complexity and scope.

  • Lead or support the development, testing, and characterization of new products and processes, ensuring successful scale-up from laboratory to commercial production.
  • Document scientific findings and project milestones through comprehensive technical reports.
  • Present project outcomes through both technical and business-oriented presentations, both internally and at industry conferences.
  • Identify and propose development projects that align with market trends and strategic business objectives.
  • Stay informed on technical literature and intellectual property, leveraging this knowledge to inspire new product ideas.
  • Collaborate with the IP and Legal teams to translate scientific discoveries into patent applications.
  • Build and nurture relationships with technical counterparts across customer and service provider networks.
  • Engage in external R&D collaborations with academic institutions and research organizations.
  • Work alongside other Imerys divisions to assess and implement emerging technologies.
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of junior scientists and technicians.
  • Travel may be required up to 10% for both domestic and international engagements.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong technical acumen, with proficiency in troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Capable of articulating complex technical concepts in accessible language.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) is advantageous.
  • Experience in additive functionalization and interfacial chemistry.
  • Proficient in standard polymer testing methodologies and capable of training others.
  • Deep understanding of the interplay between the physical and chemical properties of inorganic materials and their effects on polymer performance.
  • Hands-on experience in laboratory settings or customer facilities is preferred.
  • Ability to lead diverse, cross-cultural teams in New Product Development initiatives.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced and evolving operational environments.
  • Experience with thermoset composites and industrial mineral processing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of powder processing technologies and data analytics/machine learning applications in material science is beneficial.

Education and Experience
Candidates should possess a strong background in polymers or materials science, with a solid understanding of structure-property relationships. A PhD in chemical, plastics, or materials science, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, is preferred. Alternatively, a Master's degree with at least 8 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience will be considered. Experience in applications related to transportation, packaging, construction, and electronics is advantageous.
