Job Summary

The Building Electrical Group at Dennis Group Springfield is responsible for designing and building electrical systems for our food and beverage production facilities. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer III to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage.
  • Execute duties on larger projects independently and lead client contact and engineering efforts.
  • Document all necessary calculations for the design, including short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, and load calculations.
  • Maintain project document organization and manage time to meet commitments.
  • Understand Ohms Law, AC/DC, Electric and magnetic fields, and power system theory, including 3-phase vector math, power factor, and symmetrical components.
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations and coordinating fixture placement with other trades.
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Code expertise in NEC, NFPA 72/101/, and IBC.
  • Specify means and methods, equipment, and other common work, including grounding, start-up, LV & MV Cables.
  • Design low voltage systems, including LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, and create power plans and schedules.
  • Review scope with client, create and manage needs list, and produce bid documents.
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC's, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS's.
  • Perform short circuit calculations, estimate weights of main tray/trapezes and equipment, and assist in managing electrical bid process.
  • Participate in department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance, and research electrical building/power materials and best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8+ years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces.
  • 8+ years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 8+ years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit, or other related design programs.
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred.
  • FE or PE tracked desirable.
  • Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%.
