Maintenance Supervisor Job Description

At SunCoke Energy, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our maintenance activities, while also providing leadership and guidance to our maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HES) Compliance: Ensure that all site and company HES rules, policies, and procedures are maintained by team members, and address any issues promptly and professionally.
  • Maintenance Work Activities: Monitor and direct maintenance work activities, providing field support to craft personnel and ensuring work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Pre-Execution Job Walk Downs: Participate in and perform pre-execution job walk downs with personnel, monitoring safe and efficient performance of job tasks and ensuring all safety and maintenance work processes are followed.
  • Maintenance Task Execution: Execute maintenance tasks, assist in establishing priorities, and ensure post-work documentation and clean up is performed in a timely manner.
  • Zone Improvements: Oversee the material and cleanliness condition of maintenance zones of responsibility and coordinate with team members and the Maintenance Manager to propose and oversee zone improvements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Work with resources to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local HES regulations, reporting and notifying appropriate personnel of any deviations.
  • Incident Investigations: Participate in and/or perform incident investigations, including reporting incidents, completing required documentation, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Training and Coaching: Train and coach personnel in efficient work procedures, safe work practices, and good housekeeping practices, and encourage development and growth of skills and abilities.
  • Procedure Review and Update: Champion on-going review and update of maintenance procedures, providing training and direction to ensure successful implementation of new and/or revised procedures.
  • Efficiency and Cost Control: Assist in evaluating the efficiency of work procedures, manpower, and equipment utilization, and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
  • Budget and Investment Planning: Assist in developing and monitoring the maintenance budget and annual investment plan.
  • Craft Scheduling: Administer the maintenance craft scheduling process, ensuring proper staffing of maintenance personnel within requirements established by contract and as directed by plant leadership.
  • Equipment Inspection: Coordinate the inspection of machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Communication and Reporting: Conduct regular crew and safety meetings, pre-job/pre-work safety reviews, and monitor, review, and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to identify causes of nonconformity or operating/production problems.
  • Contract Management: Perform management of services contracts of subcontractors as required, according to cost, quality, safety, and pre-set deadlines in the contract.
