About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated CVT I Specialist to join our team at the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC). As a CVT I Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in delivering high-quality cardiovascular services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with direct patient care during catheterization or interventional procedures in the scrub, circulator, and monitor positions.
  • Deliver quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Provide direct assistance to physicians and patients to achieve optimum outcomes.
  • Prepare patients and technically advanced equipment for advanced invasive procedures.
  • Scrubs and assists physicians during procedures.
  • Advises and plans with physicians on procedural strategies and supplies.
  • Assists in emergent conditions.
  • Assures patient, physician, and team needs are met during procedure.
  • Serves as patient advocate, advising on sedation and pain medication for patient comfort.
  • Obtains and sets up procedural supplies and equipment.
  • Operates digital x-ray equipment and administers medications under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician.
  • Uses advanced critical thinking skills to manage emergency situations.
  • Monitors and interprets EKG and hemodynamics during procedures.
  • Inputs data from patient history, labs, and current case proceedings including equipment/supplies and documentation for ACC, conscious sedation, pain management, and medication administration.
  • Performs basic data manipulation to obtain value areas, shunt calculation, and cardiac outputs.
  • Participates as part of procedure team to provide specific patient care functions such as transport, sheath removal, closure site care, etc.
  • Participates in providing and assuring informed consent and patient education.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinic's scorecard, performance improvement activities, and mission.
  • Actively participates in obtaining desired service line outcome.
  • Provides Procedural Sedation according to the guidelines set forth in the Carilion Clinic 'Procedural Sedation/Analgesia, Care of Patients Receiving' policy for patients greater than 12 years of age.
  • Maintains appropriate credential to monitor patients receiving sedation/analgesia.
Requirements
  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing (RN), with valid board licensure.
  • Critical care experience preferred.
  • Must have valid nursing license (RN) in the state of Virginia.
  • Must have and maintain current AHA BLS-HCP certification.
  • Must successfully complete AHA ACLS within six months of hire date and maintain current status.
  • Successful completion of cardiac monitoring course required.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamworking skills required.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.
