Job Summary: The Maintenance Manager will oversee all maintenance functions to ensure maximum productivity and economic efficiency of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration Plant. This role is responsible for managing daily maintenance, identifying areas for improvement, ensuring plant safety and environmental compliance, and directing maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and quality maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, and grounds
  • Direct maintenance personnel in inspection and repair of plant equipment
  • Verify work order completion in a timely manner
  • Determine plant maintenance requirements through preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Conduct periodic inspections and provide direction, supervision, and feedback to employees
  • Supervise and oversee maintenance personnel skill improvement, training, and safety programs
  • Mentor maintenance personnel and prepare them for additional responsibilities and future advancement
  • Assist with screening and hiring of personnel and develop and administer contracts for external contractors
  • Plan, schedule, and manage plant outages and overhauls
  • Conduct and support regular safety meetings and respond to safety-related incidents

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Standing for extended periods, stair and ladder climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Wearing protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment
  • Working with hazardous materials
  • Extended working hours, varied shifts, and weekend and holiday work

Qualifications:

  • Technical undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience in natural gas fired combined cycle power plant operations and maintenance
  • Experience with LOTO process and procedures
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls, electricity, rotating equipment, power plant mechanics, and operations
  • Experience managing plant outages with multiple contractors
  • Experience supervising hourly personnel, strong leadership, and motivational skills

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in time management skills
  • Strong proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CMMS/Maximo systems

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • Current and valid driver's license
